MATLAB is an indispensable asset for scientists, researchers, and engineers. The richness of the MATLAB computational environment combined with an integrated development environment (IDE) and straightforward interface, toolkits, and simulation and modeling capabilities, creates a research and development tool that has no equal. Job opportunities for engineers with MATLAB programming skills are larger as per the online publications in Naukri (1176), Linkedin (890), and many other sources. Learning MATLAB is easier; developing applications using MATLAB is an art that engineers have to learn by experience. Working on projects and gaining expertise in MATLAB is one of the best and recommended methods. This internship involves training students on applications development using MATLAB focusing on signal and image processing applications.

Objectives :
  • To illustrate the importance of MATLAB in engineering
  • To demonstrate solutions for real world problems using mathematical approach
  • To build strong programming skills by working on multiple projects in signal and image processing domain
  • To enable students in development of improved algorithms for real world projects
Duration of internship :

4 weeks (every day with online session of 45 minutes, project development and evaluation of 90 minutes)

At the end of the 4 weeks participants would have understood and developed MATLAB programs for the following projects (not limited to):

  1. Image Processing Pipeline for Facial Expression Recognition under Variable Lighting
  2. Video-based license plate reader
  3. Motion Tracking for Medical Imaging
  4. Shape Recovery on Low-Quality or Missing Image
  5. Drowsiness Detection using Contactless Heart Rate Monitoring and Eye Tracking
  6. Optimal detection, separation, and analysis of FISH images
  7. Book Cover Recognition
  8. Automatic Cell Detection of Liver Tissue Section Image
  9. Image Compression using Wavelets
  10. OFDM modulation and Demodulation
Internship Procedure :

Every day the mathematical concepts and programming tricks for the above mentioned case studies will be demonstrated in online mode. Pseudo code and test procedures will be given to students to complete the project and submit report and results. Online presentation from students on the project work assigned will be monitored regularly. After completion of the projects assigned certificates will be provided.

Mandatory Requirement :

Students need to have MATLAB software with them (30 day trial version can be downloaded free of cost from MATLAB website). Students can also use open source tools for the same (SCILAB, GNU Octave).

Software :

Students should have Computer / Laptop and install any Students / Evaluation VersionMatlab / Scilab Software
